DNA methylation is an essential epigenetic mark in mammals. In this seminar, I will present two ongoing projects aiming to understand the roles of DNA methylation, and the mechanisms underpinning these roles. In the first part, I will show that DNA methylation protects cancer cells against senescence, which opens up new possibilities for therapy. In the second part, I will present our work towards elucidating the function of DNA methylation in pericentromere function in mouse ES cells.
