LESI Olufunmilayo

Dr. LESI is the Cross-Cutting Hepatitis Lead at the Department of Global HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis and STI Programmes (HTH), WHO Headquarters in Geneva, where she oversees global efforts to eliminate hepatitis B and C. She has led key WHO guidance updates—including the Path to Elimination framework, Hepatitis B PMTCT guidance, and consolidated implementation guidance, as well as contributed to the 2024 WHO hepatitis B treatment recommendations. 

With extensive field experience across several WHO regions and previous service as Regional Hepatitis Advisor for Africa, she brings deep technical and programme expertise. 

Dr. LESI is also a Professor of Medicine at the University of Lagos (since 2015), with research focused on hepatitis B, liver cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma, and has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications
