Nikolai Naoumov

Nikolai Naoumov is a physician-scientist with a professional career spanning academia, clinical care and drug development, all focused on liver diseases.  He is Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London) and the Royal College of Pathologists (UK). His research has integrated immunology, molecular biology and translational medicine in elucidating virus-host interactions and mechanisms of liver injury. He led research teams at the Medical Academy Sofia, King’s College Institute of Liver Studies in London, and subsequently as Professor of Hepatology at University College London. In his research and as a clinical hepatologist, he has supervised and mentored numerous clinical fellows and PhD students from around the world. Between 2007 and 2021, Prof. Naoumov expanded his contributions to medical science and clinical hepatology in senior leadership roles at Novartis Global Drug Development in Basel, Switzerland. In parallel, he continued contributing to liver research and education as Honorary Professor of Hepatology at University College London, Scientific Advisor to the Foundation for Liver Research in the UK, and a Board member of the Liver Research Foundation in Switzerland. He is Fellow of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland. Current work is focused on HBV cure, digital pathology with AI, liver fibrosis and MASH therapies. Publication list and details are available online in his UCL profile
