Heinrich Jasper is a Principal Fellow and Director at Genentech Inc. in South San Francisco and a Professor at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in Novato, California, USA. He obtained a diploma in biochemistry from the University of Tübingen (Germany) in 1999 and his PhD from the University of Heidelberg/EMBL (Germany) in 2002, where he studied transcriptional regulation of developmental processes in Drosophila. At gRED, Henri oversees regenerative medicine efforts and has established a department exploring the use of in vivo reprogramming and cell therapies as strategies to target degenerative diseases of the lung, intestine and eye, including AMD, IBD and IPF. In his academic work, Henri is known for breakthrough contributions to the identification and characterization of signaling mechanisms regulating stress responses, metabolic homeostasis and longevity; for the establishment of the Drosophila intestinal stem cell model to study stem cell aging and the age-related decline in regenerative capacity; for the identification and characterization of various mechanisms regulating stem cell function in barrier epithelia of flies and vertebrates; and for the identification of processes and pathways regulating retinal repair and homeostasis, improving retinal cell therapy. He is editorial board member of Current Biology, Aging Cell and Scientific Reports.
