Shaorong Gao currently is an Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a full professor and the dean for the School of Life Sciences and Technology, Tongji University, Shanghai, China. Dr. Shaorong Gao received the Doctorate degree in Reproductive Biology from the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He then did post-doc in UK and US focusing on somatic cell reprogramming. He returned to China in late 2005 and joined the National Institute of Biological Sciences (NIBS) as a principal investigator. In 2013, he moved to Tongji University and became the dean for School of Life Sciences and Technology. His primary focus is to explore the cutting-edge field of epigenetic regulatory mechanisms in embryonic development and cell reprogramming. He continuously strives to develop models for integrating basic research and translating scientific achievements into practical applications. Professor Gao has dedicated a significant portion of his career to investigating the epigenetic regulatory mechanisms of embryonic development, somatic cell reprogramming, and translational medicine research in stem cells. He was among the first researchers in the world to demonstrate the true pluripotency of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells). His research findings have been recognized as one of the top ten medical breakthroughs worldwide and among China's top ten advancements in life sciences.
